Is productivity in the workplace diminishing?

Over the last twenty years I have often heard older workers indicating that the levels of industry of their peers by far exceeds what they see today from most people in the workplace, and this is something that has needed to be looked at for some time. Unfortunately it is very difficult to say whether or not this is the case, but fortunately there has been a recent survey which has looked into productivity in the workplace, and this survey has significant findings. Thankfully, the survey has taken respondents from a very broad spectrum so that we can make a real assessment. People answered a range of questions from many different countries across the world, following a similar investigation that took place in America a couple of years ago.
The findings of this investigation are quite fascinating, and although we can see that there are many different reasons for a decline in productivity amongst workers from different types of workforces, one overriding factor appeared to be information overload. It appears that this barrage of information that workers receive is something which can lower morale, decrease individual and combined output and it is also shown to have a negative effect on employee performance too.
It seems to be fair to assume then, that workers perform at a level that is closer to their best if they have limited information other than the knowledge required to do their individual jobs. It could be argued that many workers simply have too many responsibilities themselves, which could easily result in information overload, and the natural result of being overloaded in any situation is to hit some sort of breaking point. It is to be hoped that the results of this survey will be taken seriously by the people who can ensure that things change.
